Free Fitness Challange

My holiday has finally arrived and with limited time and cash, this week I decided to set myself a little challenge.

I wanted to feel my best on the slopes but instead of hitting the gym I decided to save a bit of money and workout at home.

Rather than committing to a run in the cold, dark and damp weather, which let’s face it, was never going to happen. I stumbled across some great workout sheets from the NHS which I could complete in the comfort of my own home.

I assigned an area to work on for each day of the week (Mon-Fri) beginning with a warm up and ending with a cool down. All I needed to find was 20 minutes a day. Simple!!

I’ve kept a diary to let you know how I got on.

Everyday – 6 minute warm up –

Monday – 10 minute cardio –

I headed to Mum & Dad’s straight from work. They are looking after my 3 year old nephew, so what could be more fun than getting him to join in my exercise of choice for today! I must admit it was harder than I thought but doing star jumps with a 3 year old certainly put a smile on my face and I was very impressed with his counting skills. 1 down 5 to go.

 Tuesday – 10 minute abs workout –

I’m off to the cinema tonight for a friend’s birthday and taking advantage of “Bargain Tuesdays” ( I would usually go to Zumba but it would be impossible to fit in, however I’ve managed to find 20 minutes. I’ve chosen to ignore the aching muscles I haven’t used for a while from yesterdays workout and just got on with it.

Wednesday – 10 minute bingo wings blaster –

I’ve got some last minute washing to do tonight in preparation for my hols so my usual swim is out of the question. Whilst the washing is on the go I’ve completed my 20 minutes and even prepped for dinner. I feel like superwoman!

Thursday – 10 minute firm butt workout –

Another day, another birthday! This time it’s my cousins 30th. I’ve rushed home, wrapped the present, worked that butt, all in time for dinner. I’m feeling great and also a little less guilty about consuming that piece of cake and glass of wine.

Friday – 10 minute toning workout –

Ahh it’s finally here, day number 5. I’m exhausted from a very busy week and still have to pack. I really don’t have the energy but I’ve made a commitment and I WILL stick to it!

Everyday – 5 minute cool down routine –

Ive finally completed my challange and I’m really proud that I’ve managed to get some exercise despite being so busy this week. Don’t get me wrong it’s been hard finding the motivation but I often find if you set yourself an achievable goal and take it one step at a time, it’s easier to complete. I’ve even lost 1lb in the process! I will definitely embark on this challenge again, especially after I’ve over indulged on the Swiss cheese!

Why not try the challenge yourself and let me know how you get on?

There’s no business like show business

Show business

On Saturday night I will be indulging in one of my favourite pastimes, going to the theatre. On this occasion I am paying full price *grumbles*, however in the past, I have seen many great shows absolutely free! Here’s how:-

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing some big stars such as Will.I.AM, Katherine Jenkins and Leonard cohen as well as catching the likes of Jason Donovan in Annie Get your Gun. To get free tickets all you need to do is register on the following website:-

Once you have registered you will receive regular emails with updates and every now and again they will send you a code for an event. The trick is to be quick as they are taken up pretty fast. I usually check my emails on a daily basis. This way I can delete any rubbish and don’t miss any great offers. Tickets are issued in order to promote that particular show and feedback is requested once you have attended an event. It’s important to complete feedback as this will encourage them to send you more codes in the future.

These additional websites work together with show film first. I have registered with all of them to ensure I get the best chance of receiving codes

TV Shows

Living in Manchester I have the luxury of being near to some great television studios. I have often received free tickets to be part of an audience and experience behind the scenes of some great TV shows. All you need to do is register with these sites and you will receive regular emails about popular TV shows as well as new shows that are filmed across the country. Why not check them out to see if you can be part of the audience and spot yourself on TV.

I’m sure you will all agree that the price of going to see a film these days is astronomical! Here are some great deals with nationwide cinema chains. Don’t forget to pick up your drinks and snacks beforehand to save on overpriced popcorn and oversized coke!

Bargain Tuesdays – Savings of up to £3.50 per ticket

Look out for 45% off deals at 02 Priority

2-1 on Wednesdays throughout March

Super Tuesdays – receive up to 1/3 off adult tickets

Kids AM – Everyone pays the kids price from £1.75 each

Bargain Tuesdays – Savings of up to £5.30 per ticket

Are you a fan of all things showbiz? Let me know if you’ve had any success in scoring free tickets and how you got them.

Valentine’s Victories

Yes that time of year has arrived again. You’ve just received your February pay cheque after struggling your way through the last weeks of January and you want to hold on to it for dear life! Valentine’s doesn’t have to be a flashy affair and here are some ideas that won’t break the bank.

We are all guilty of last minute card purchasing from the local off-licence, supermarket or that craft shop on your way home from work. This usually follows with a raising of the eyebrows at the price before reluctantly dragging yourself to the till out of necessity. A little bit of planning can help prevent this, costing a fraction of the price.

Head to your local Card Factory. They have a range of cards but I’ve picked out these which are just £0.79 each!
